The Mole Cricket
Mole Cricket is a major pest of lawns in the Carolina's. Bahiagrass can be severely damaged due to its more open growth habit. St. Augustine can also be damaged. But, the damage is not as apparent in a mature stand of St. Augustine. A secondary problem with Mole Cricket damage is the invasion of weeds. They tend to fill in the bare patches created by the damage. Other animal pests can be attracted to the Mole Crickets as a food source. This invasion can cause severe damage.
